GMBand (1).jpgGlasgow Mandolin Band

Last year I have the privilege of joining Kevin Henderson and Kris Drever to do some gigs, host some sessions and give some workshops at The Big Folk Weekender over on Shetland. While I was there, I got to have tunes with the fantastic Jenny Henry, and find out all about the mandolin band she runs over there. I ended up becoming their number one fan, and even got to hop up on stage with them during Shetland Folk Festival earlier this year! Anyway, to cut a long story short, her approach to the band – getting everyone involved, really mixed abilities and ages, really inspired me and I have decided to set up something as close as I can in Glasgow. The Glasgow Mandolin Band will start on the 17th of November, and run once a month on a Sunday afternoon. I am really excited about it, but it is definitely new territory for me, so it might take a little while for me to find the best way of running it.

If you are interested in getting involved, just drop me an email over on my contacts page. Glasgow Mandolin Band wont be mandolin lessons, just a get together and a jam, with the long term goal of working up enough numbers to do a concert. I’ll pick tunes in the beginning – probably a mixture of american, self-penned and Scottish tunes, but as we get going I’ll ask members for suggestions too.

Fingers crossed it’ll be a lot of fun!
